they mean "no bra." 

This is standard French.  I am not making any of this up.


All the hungry young Frenchmen line up outside the movie houses. 

It is stylish to stand around in a trench coat and a hat. 

It is stylish to stand around in the rain and be miserable. 


The name for a hungry young Frenchman

who stands around in a trench coat and a hat

and gets miserable in the rain is not important to us. 



We are a long way from France

and we have no hat

and we are not wet or miserable.
