Sonnet for the Search Party
Lemon skinned moon
Purrs away, only skin she says
In a thousand mirrored pores
Sits a handful of feral stars.
Only face, why save it? he agrees,
Hangs yellow, bangs louder
On the hollow door
Hangs his entirety: eyes, a pinhole mouth
Two heart-shaped lungs
Listen for her backwalk.
The first time she landed
On him, the purring rattled an eyelash
And sunk the earth like a spoon.
An echo, she says, goes on saying.
