This lift, this humming and pressing in the chest
This pushing of shoots
and conversion of something
into something else with its vinegar smells and mud
is the best kind of chaos and
a lot like stuffing an octopus into a bento box
or for those us who have not traveled much
a little like shoving a squirrel into an ice-cube tray
We need this pushing and shoving
these frog songs to release us
from winter’s relentless cello solo
and how else would we get the little squirrels
who become the big squirrels who leave us
half-eaten ears of corn on the roof of the car?
