I Never Needed to Be the Queen Bee

After sex the becoming of we
is the knee to knee, the sheets
we settle on, the unseen.
I am Adam, a woman. I’m free.
He is Eve, a man sweetly
stepping toward a matriarchy.
At the end of sleep I make coffee.
I never needed to be the queen bee.
A forager, a guard, a worker: that’s me.
