Arise Ye Smithies and Garmentors

flesh furriers of the social fabric,
your faces with luminous gall,
wreak toll booths and fence posts
where locomotives dare,
down a trench or along a protective wall
of batteries.  Arise and fabricate
a city of permanent porch
fronts and sunwashed stoops,
sew farther up the dazzling
morning so whole neighborhoods
are forever gallant,
threaded together with children
dodging gravely between
the fence bats, posters of heaven,
arise, dormant angels of wreathing
celebrate the wrenching of all
seasons with your furious blows.
