Sustainability Blues

The sky
is a muster,

rollicking sea
of pain,

everybody on their porches,
sittin’ rain.

The law
is huckster,

criminally
insane,

people packed in jail cells,
sittin’ rain.

Wanna know
how we got here?

Let’s go back
to 1970,

when we drained
the public pools…

Racism
drained the pool.

Scared white people
privatized this nation.

Now we all
pay more, now we all

pay more.  Division
victimizes

any
population.

Wanna know
who benefits

from such
incrementalism?

Just the few,
just the few…

Love
is a bumper,

a used car
in the rain,

can’t expect a ride,
ya ain’t

willing
to change.

Wanna know
why we can’t

have nice things?
Let’s go back

to the moment
we called

ourselves
kings.

The sky
is a muster,

rollicking sea
of pain,

everybody on their porches,
sittin’ rain.
