When Dusting Does Not Matter Anymore

When I am old

I am going to get a bird

and I am going to name my bird Raoul.

Most of the time, Raoul will live in his cage

but I do plan to let Raoul fly around the house sometimes.

I am not going to be one of those bird owners

who periodically dumps some bird seed onto a tray

and then goes about his business.

That is not who I am.  I will be very tired

and most of my friends will be dead

and it will be very satisfying when Raoul lands on my rotary phone

and perches there as if he wants to place a call.

That is when I will talk to Raoul.

Sometimes I may even fall asleep.
