The Bath

You’ll slip into the bath water warm
And comfortable and slimy,
With your aromatic candle
And blue laptop light flickering
Side by side.

And you’ll notice tiny black specks
Floating in the water,
And wonder when last you took
A bubble bath,
Or bathed at all.

But they’re ants squirming
Their way to dry land.
So you’ll pinch those beasts,
At first with a curious
Hatred.

But then swoosh the water behind them
Propelling them to the edge
Of your grimy tub
To live and breathe
And feel
Out the next tube of toothpaste
With their devouring little antennae.
