AN ESSAY ON WHAT OCCURS AFTER THE EVENT

                                                                      …to risk unrecognizability as a subject…

                                                                                                     JUDITH BUTLER

The muted brown cinematography

Of a cinema concerned with the law

Will be the object of my desiring

Interest as I sleepwalk from this chair

To the twenty windowed doors leading out

How often I’ve done this and regretted

Any attempt at sleeping or taking

My eyes off The Book of Recognitions

Nearing the doubled daybreak partition

Incoherent and barely there at all

“A” recovered “name” suddenly/Floods “the” memory

“taken from/the shop where I was made.”

                                                                                                         AARON KUNIN
