Let’s Not Have a Corporate Retreat
Let’s not have a corporate retreat
on how to have more productive corporate retreats.
Somewhere the first few gold leaves float down
from sugar maples. Before sunrise, two blond
horses stand in the brittle silver grass,
staring warily, tendrils of steam rising
from their nostrils and curling into the air.
There is not enough trust between us.
Let’s not have a corporate retreat to prove it.
I don’t need to fall backwards from a tree stump
into your arms. Somewhere the sun laces
through metallic leaves. Soon it will be winter,
and when the wind blows, ice-armored branches
will click against each other until one cracks.
