POEM FOR MY FRIEND’S BREAK-UP

DECAMPED, BUT STILL
EXTRAVAGANT, YOUR LOVE
GOES OUT

LIKE A LION. I KNOW BECAUSE
I WAS THE FIRST TO KNOW,
AND STRAPPED TO THE LONGINGS

WE SEE IN MAGAZINES,
NONE OF US LASTS. I HOPE
YOU PRESS UP AGAINST

THE WOLVES IN THEIR GLASS
HOUSES DECKED WITH FAUX
BONES, BECAUSE I CAN’T.
