I swallowed your seed whole

took a form of you into my mind

phantom man, phantom plant

awaiting its debut

can you believe the promise

of unfurled leaves, delicate blossoms?

packed away in tiny cases

saving the best for later

I traverse carefully

the silences between us

each one a bridge

with different intention

days heat up, and the marks

you leave on me deepen

I move through stores,

offices, home I know

in a hidden daze

seed of my waywardness

just under the surface

convince yourself what you have

is what you want

I’m pretty good at that

until golden petals peek through

alarmingly obvious, covering my life

with all the wrong kind of cheer

I’ve waited for, I’ve wanted
