MY ALAMO MY WATERLOO MY NAGASAKI

the water is good if you know where to dive in
but I don't, do you?
pills and swilling used to be my bread and butter
leaning too long on musty castle walls
has done nothing for my posture
or my elbow patches
a fluted glass holds everything
I need to make it over the finish line
that two-seater was bad on my hips
getting in, getting out
my masterpiece was thus never painted
there is great beauty in every single thing I've failed at
I know this to be true
their reverberations haven't lied to me yet
a beautiful sky is my witness
I can never decide which I like better
the stars or the sun
your shadow shows up best in moonlight
perhaps I answered my own question
how could I forgive myself
if I ever drove you away?
